Here is Rachel Yongsha Moura!!! We had to be on the bus at 5:20am on Monday morning to go to the airport for our 8am flight to Shanghai. After landing and meeting our Shanghai guide Sandra, we headed straight to the orphanage. After signing a "few" documents, we only had to wait for a few minutes and they brought Rachel to us. They told her to go with baba (daddy) and mama (mommy). She was very shy. They prepared us that many children come out crying, but she wasn't and never did. From the orphanage we went to our new hotel. While still talking to our guide in our room, Rachel was sitting in Fabio's lap an was almost falling asleep. It was past her nap time. She slept for over an hour. After waking up, we took her out to buy some shoes. She LOVES pink!! Then we went to eat ( she had already had lunch, but we had not!). We looked for a place she would like. We had no clue what was on the menu as it had no pictures, but we ordered anyway! It was all seafood and Rachel ate everything brought to her! Food kept coming and she kept eating! We were amazed at how she knew how to eat things when we didn't know! I mostly just watched her and didn't even eat. I was ready for something else to eat. I wanted Italian at first, but the wasn't that hungry anymore. So we went to McDonald's for the first time! I ate 1/2 of my burger. Rachel ate some fries. I thought she might throw up after eating SO much. I'll post pics later.
She was happy about her new clothes, but especially her pink flip flops. She talks up a storm in chinesewith us! We try to understand what she's saying but we mostly laugh! She's adorable! She also loved her new crayons and coloring pencils, her pink backpack, everything. After an emotional day, we all went to bed at about 8pm. It has been a very exhausting trip so far. I think we can rest a little this week. We have been up since 5am. We have to meet our guide at 9am to go to our appt.!
According to some info we got yesterday, Rachel was with a foster family from Aug. 9 2006 until April 6, 2010, and she went back to the orphanage at that time. Now we want to ask them why, because we thought she was still with her foster family. Hopefully we can find out more today. The orphanage gave us a few of her things and made a beautiful picture book for her. We were expecting nothing.
Thanks for all of your prayers and support! It means so much to get e-mails from you. We love you and can't wait for you to meet her!
Love,
Fabio and Andrea
